Criterion A: Knowing and Understanding Physical Theatre.
Criterion A assesses what you know and understand about the style of physical theatre. You will be able to describe specific physical theatre techniques used to create original, innovative work and will also be able to explain why they are used.
Process Journal
Your Process Journal (PJ) is a very important document as it will detail many of your ideas and thoughts related to your exploration in class. It will include what you know about the new skills you have learnt and will demonstrate your understanding of how these techniques are used within performance.
In your Process Journal you will:
- Connect the new terminology you are learning with your practical exploration in class by answering guiding questions.
- Show that you understand why these techniques are used during a physical theatre exploration.
- Annotate photographs of your performance skills, making links to techniques learnt in previous units.
- Make research notes on physical theatre techniques and how they are used to communicate with and educate an audience.
Creating a Pitch for a Physical Theatre Performance
Imagine that you are a member of a collaborative physical theatre company.
You have a performance idea for your next public showcase. You want to devise a five-minute physical theatre performance using some of the following stimuli:
You have a clear idea of how this stimuli can be used to express a specific theme or concept (e.g. love conquers all, money makes the world go round etc.…) and want to share your ideas with the rest of the physical theatre company to see if they would be interested in working together to devise this performance.
As an experienced performer and lover of a variety of theatre styles, you have a great interest in the work of other physical theatre companies from all over the world (and are particularly passionate about the work of one company) You would love to use the influences of this company in your new creation.
The rest of the physical theatre company members have asked you to create a short pitch (no more than a five minute audio recording or an 800 word document) to explain your idea.
