Criterion B: Developing Physical Theatre Skills
This criterion refers to your ability to practically apply your knowledge and understanding of the skills and techniques you have learned in your Drama lessons.
Criterion B will assess the development of your physical theatre skills during this unit, most specifically how you used those skills to create an original performance.
You will be assessed using the following:
Process Journal
Your Process Journal (PJ) is very important document as will detail the development of your ideas and skills during this unit. It will document your experimentation with the new skills acquired and reveals the development of these skills in your planning for your final performance.
In your Process Journal you will:
Exploration in Class
Every lesson you will practically explore and experiment with new skills associated with physical theatre, such as your use of movement, working as an ensemble, use of repetition etc... The development of these skills will be continually assessed during every lesson through teacher observations.
You will:
Physical Theatre Performance
The application of your newly acquired skills will be assessed in your final performance of this unit.
In small groups you will:

- Final Physical Theatre Performance
Process Journal
Your Process Journal (PJ) is very important document as will detail the development of your ideas and skills during this unit. It will document your experimentation with the new skills acquired and reveals the development of these skills in your planning for your final performance.
In your Process Journal you will:
- Describe and evaluate the workshop activities you participated in during class.
- Annotate photos and videos of workshops.
Exploration in Class
Every lesson you will practically explore and experiment with new skills associated with physical theatre, such as your use of movement, working as an ensemble, use of repetition etc... The development of these skills will be continually assessed during every lesson through teacher observations.
You will:
- work through a series of physical theatre exercises to explore an approach to performing
- perform a piece of physical theatre using the stimulus provided in class
- devise a piece of physical theatre using movement, levels of tension, sound and costume to communicate an idea, theme or message.
- document your progress in the creative process in your Process Journal
- reflect upon and evaluate your contribution to the creative process in your Process Journal
Physical Theatre Performance
The application of your newly acquired skills will be assessed in your final performance of this unit.
In small groups you will:
- Engage with a variety of stimuli to inspire an original performance concept.
- Create an original five minute piece of physical theatre using a variety of movement skills, physical connection, levels of tension, sound and costume to communicate an idea theme or message.
- Use music within your performance.
- Utilise the ideas from your research on your chosen physical theatre company to influence your work.
